She became interested in the sport when coach Sergey Semin came to her school and showed the students gold medals that his athletes had won. However, she almost quit fencing immediately when she realised how much training she would have to do. "My mother said to me, 'You never finish anything, you run away at the first problem'. She decided to take a break from fencing when the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo were postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In November 2020 she announced that she was pregnant, and she gave birth to a son the following May. She resumed training in September 2021. "The decision has been made, I am resuming my career, I want to return to elite sport and have already started training. This decision was prompted by the excellent performance of our team in Tokyo, as well as the support of my coach Dmitry Glotov, who is again ready to walk this path with me.
