Sport Specific Information |
Why this sport? |
He took up the sport as an extra-curricular activity on Fridays after his school classes had finished. "After two years my parents signed me up to a club where sabre was the main discipline. Contrary to many, my inspiration to start the sport had nothing to do with Zorro." |

RETIREMENT He announced his retirement from the sport after failing to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He took up a coaching role with the French men's sabre team. (20minutes.fr, 10 Oct 2021; Instagram profile, 31 Aug 2021)
OLYMPIC FRUSTRATION He was named as a reserve for both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. He did not travel to the 2004 Games in Athens, but he did go to Beijing as a reserve in 2008. "Beijing was so frustrating. I was accredited but I couldn't go to the opening ceremony or go and watch other sports. I could train with my teammates but was not permitted to follow them into the competition arena. After that experience I spent several months wondering if I wanted to continue in the sport." (vincentanstett.fr, 17 Dec 2011)
OTHER ACTIVITIES As well as competing at the 2014 European Championships in Strasbourg, France, he also served as marketing and communications director for the event. "It was very rewarding but I was not able to compete at 100% of my ability. It was a unique adventure and I do not think anyone has done this in the past. It was a great experience." He has also worked for the French Football Federation. (confidencessportifs.fr, 17 Apr 2017; interviewsport.fr, 05 Apr 2015) |

Sporting philosophy / motto |
"One of my best characteristics is my motivation, my desire to achieve more. If I could talk to my younger self, I'd tell myself to be even more motivated to want to achieve a higher level, because our career is very short so you have to make the most of it. Never give up, no matter what the competition." (FIE YouTube channel, 03 Jun 2018) |
