DEATH OF COACH
In 2011 her former coach Imre Nagy passed away. She struggled to cope with his death, as she had worked with him since she was young, and came close to quitting the sport. "He was the reason why I got into fencing. When he died, it was sudden and unexpected and I was like, 'I can't do this anymore. It's way too hard to go in the gym'. I used to drive to practice and I would sit in the car and then just drive home. After a while I was having a bit of a pity party, I was like, 'Your life is over, you've got to change sport, everything's done'. Then I asked myself, 'How mad would [Nagy] be right now if he saw me sitting in my room, saying I'm not going to fence ever again?' So finally I got my big girl pants on and I went to the gym. It was still really hard to be there but it brought back to the fact that he would've hated it if I just stopped fencing completely. It took me a long time to stop feeling sorry for myself. CAMPER VAN BUILDER
In August 2021 she began a project to convert her own camper van. She named the van 'Ed Sheervan', after English singer Ed Sheeran. "I've always wanted to live the van life. Go travel around Canada in a van. Go camping and have this van. This wasn't something I was just randomly deciding to do - it was something that I had been wanting for a long time. I'm determined not to get any outside help, other than my dad making sure I don't cut my hands off. The saw we have is pretty old. My mum and dad got it as a wedding present - and they've been married for 43 years. I was scared of using it. But all my fingers are intact, so we're looking good so far. Some may call me crazy, my dads calling it a pre-30s crisis, but I call it adventure. It's the best thing I've ever done. I'm very happy I bought it. COACHING
