JOINING THE ARMY She joined the Luxembourg army to become a professional fencer. ''It costs approximately 50,000 Euros a year to be a professional athlete due to coaching costs, physiotherapy, nutrition counselling, mental training, materials, travel, as well as accommodation. It was clear that if I wanted to become a professional fencer, there was only one option - to integrate into the elite sports section of the Luxembourg army. This allows me to devote my life completely to fencing and to receive a fixed salary.'' (rosportlife.com, 10 Nov 2016)
