He was approached by an Argentinian official at age 13, and chose to switch allegiances due to his family's history in the sport representing Argentina. "I do not know why but I felt as if this was my destiny and I could not let this opportunity pass. I also decided to switch nationalities because I am the fifth generation of Lucchettis in fencing. My ancestors won an Olympic medal [in 1928], they inspired me to continue my family's fencing tradition in Argentina."
